Love Gone Astray

Look out across the gray bay
It is a bleak day
When love goes astray

You didn't throw it away
You certainly had your say
When love went astray

Love certainly had its day
When you were always at play
Before love went astray

You sit alone on the subway
Like a forgotten bird of prey
After love went astray

Everyone else seems gay or risque
But you're just jealous of their fiancee
Because love went astray

You want to rebel like Guy Fawkes Day
You don't want to grow old or pine away
Ever since love went astray

You want to maybe take a trip to Sante Fe
Or take up witchcraft like Morgan Le Fey
Upset since love went astray

Maybe you could explore your artistic naivete
Do arts, crafts and even papier-mache
To distract you from love going astray

You might even watch classical ballet
Or meet new people at a musical soiree
Anything that doesn't remind you that love went astray

But the more you try to avoid love's bouquet
The more you realize you want to disobey...
Hey, nice day!

You're really funny and pretty eh?
Would you like to go to a cafe?
Or maybe we could see a movie on Friday?
